"I Want Candy" is a song originally from the Strangeloves' repertoire in 1965, and the originally written and recorded version did very well on the charts, reaching number 11 on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 USA chart. The song is an example of a song that uses a rhythm about Diddley.
The British group Bow Wow Wow also recorded their version of the hit song. The song was the first and only single from the band's EP titled The "Last of the Mohicans." Despite the fact that the cover recording was not very popular (the song barely made it into the TOP 50 UK), it became a true new wave classic. The audience, open-minded and hungry for this type of sound, received the release warmly not only in the UK, but also in America.
