Music video description

Tomorrow we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Poland's independence, and to mark the occasion I have prepared some patriotic songs for you. One of them is La Varsovienne or Warszawianka, written in French. This song was written under the influence of the events that took place during the November Uprising by Casimir François Delavigne, a French poet. In the words one can hear several references to the Marseillaise, e.g. "To arms, brothers today! For the day of our glory has come!". When presenting this song, it is worth noting that the author of the most famous translation into Polish was the brother of Henryk Sienkiewicz's grandfather, Karol Sienkiewicz. On the other hand, the music was written and composed by Karol Kurpinski. The premiere of the song took place in 1981 at the National Theater. By the way, it is worth mentioning here that in 1918, just after Poland regained its independence, the song was a candidate for our national anthem. I invite you to listen to the song Karol Sienkiewicz - Warszawianka 1831.
