Music video description

The songwriter Roland Orzabal based the song on a simple, slow chorus that is repeated like a mantra. Producer Chris Hughes was convinced that it would be a hit worldwide. Therefore, he decided that the recording should be at least five minutes long. The version included on the album Songs from the Big Chair lasts 6:33.

The Tears for Fears - Shout video was shot in Dorset, England, and cost just £14,000. And since the simplest solutions are usually the best it became a very popular clip on MTV. This protest-song has political overtones. The society at the time feared the "return" of the Cold War, so the song in a sense encouraged protest.
