"Brown Girl in the Ring" is a traditional children's song originating in the West Indies. The song became very popular around the world when it was recorded by the group Boney M in 1978.Initially it was the B side of a single Rivers of BabylonThe song was recorded by the group, but soon became a hit on its own. The song spent as many as nine weeks in the top 10 of the German charts, while achieving huge commercial success in other countries. "Brown Girl in the Ring" is the sixth best-selling single of all time in the UK, with more than 2 million copies.

The hit musical "Brown Girl in the Ring" was also recorded by the group Malcolm's Locks and Bahamian musician Exuma. This led to many disputes over royalties. Liz Mitchell, also recorded the song earlier than the Boney M band version appeared. Her ex-boyfriend, Malcolm Magaron, was the group's singer. Litigation over the rights to the song lasted more than 20 years in Germany.
