Until one day his friend and neighbor Glenn Frey heard an early version of the song and struck up a conversation with him about it. Browne played him the second unfinished verse of the song, which began "Well, I'm a-standin' on a corner in Winslow, Arizona...", Frey finished it with "It's a girl, my lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowin' down to take a look at me." Brown was very pleased with the final result and suggested to Glen that they finish the song and play it together.
