Concerto in D minor, written in 1857 by the eminent composer Johannes Brahms (after Schumann's death). In it he completely broke with the previous concerto style - the solo instrument is subordinated to the symphonic whole. Brahms also eliminated elements typical of the concerto style - virtuosic effects and brilliant bravura parts.
