The hit song "Summertime Blues" was written and recorded by American rock musician Eddie Cochran. The song was originally the B-side of another single, released in August 1958. The song debuted at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and at number 18 on the UK Singles Chart, which can attest to its considerable popularity. Many artists have taken "Summertime Blues" for a spin, the most notable of which are covers by the bands Blue Cheer and The Who, and Brian Stezer, who recorded his version for the 1987 film /;La Bamba/;.

"Summertime Blues" was recorded on March 28, 1958 at Gold Star Recording Studios in Hollywood. Eddie Cochran was responsible for both the vocal parts and the bass guitar sound. Sharon Sheeley is responsible for the clapping here, while Earl Palmer is responsible for the electronic bass and drums. In March 2005, Magazine ranked "Summertime Blues" at number 77 on its list of the 100 best guitar songs of all time.
