Hits of the 50s | Hits and best music from the 50s

The '50s were poor in bands, but rich in great soloists who made a permanent mark on our history. The early 1950s was not an easy period for Polish song. On the one hand, the joy of the end of the war encouraged the writing of cheerful, joyful songs, but on the other hand, the authorities favored songs promoting socialism. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, the biggest hit was "Beloved Country," sung by the State Folk Song and Dance Ensemble "Mazowsze."Read more

Things were better in the West and especially in the USA. It was probably then that pop music was really created, geared towards a mass audience, intended to be listened to and danced to at countless parties, private parties and dances. Who hasn't heard of such performers as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Paul Anka or Neil Sedaka? The strength of the music of those years is undoubtedly its authenticity. Songs, sung by teenage performers, were about entering adulthood, first fascinations, infatuations or loves of young people on the threshold of adult life. Although the lyrics sometimes trump cliché, it is impossible to pass by the unforgettable melodies, thanks to which many a couple associated, experiencing perhaps their first kiss. Disseminated by the increasingly widely available playing equipment, the music of that period still has many faithful fans to this day, for whom, even after many years have passed, it can squeeze a tear from the eye and bring back memories of crazy, puppyish times. The music overloaded stereotypes, political, cultural and moral barriers, such as the Iron Curtain, giving rise to a new generation and new times. This is the period in which Rock and Roll reigned supreme, never before or since has this genre been so popular. In the 1950s, rock music mainly addressed issues of racial discrimination, of course, actively opposing it. At the same time, energetic rock music, so different from the music that had been created earlier, had a huge impact on young people, among others, who, listening to the lyrics of rock songs, began to rebel against restrictions.

You will find here, of course, not only rock hits, but also many others. I invite you to familiarize yourself with the category.
