Music video description

The song Jacek Kaczmarski - Walls is one of the best-known works by this Polish poet, novelist, singer and songwriter. It was written in 1978 to the melody of the song L'Estaca (The Pillar) by Catalan singer Lluis Llach. The song became the anthem of Solidarity and a symbol of the struggle against the regime. The song took on a life of its own after a while, and recipients changed its ending to a more optimistic one: "And the walls grew, the chain swayed at their feet," was replaced with the words: "And the walls will collapse, collapse, collapse/ And bury the old world."

Lyrics of the song Jacek Kaczmarski - Walls:
He inspired and young was, theirs would not be counted by anyone
He gave them strength with his song, sang that the dawn was near.
Thousands of candles burned for him, smoke rose from their heads,
He sang that it was time for the wall to collapse...
They sang along with him:

Rip out the walls with the teeth of the bars!
Break the chains, break the whip!
And the walls will collapse, collapse, collapse
And bury the old world!

Soon they knew the song by heart and the melody alone without words
Carried with it the old content, shuddering through hearts and heads.
So they sang, clapped the rhythm, like a gunshot their applause sounded,
And dragged the chain, delayed the dawn....
He still sang and played:

Rip out the walls with the teeth of the bars!
Break the chains, break the whip!
And the walls will collapse, collapse, collapse
And bury the old world!

Until they saw how many, felt the strength and time,
And with a song that the dawn was near they walked through the streets of the cities;
They tore down monuments and tore up cobblestones - This one with us! The one against us!
Who alone this our worst enemy!
And the singer was also alone.

He watched the crowds march evenly,
He was silent listening to the steps bang,
And the walls grew, grew, grew
The chain swayed at his feet....

He looks at the even crowds march,
Silent listened to the steps rumble,
And the walls grow, grow, grow
The chain swings at his feet....
