Music video description

Jesus He Knows Me is the fourth single from Genesis' 1991 album We Can Not Dance. The song is a kind of commentary on the reality of the US at the time, in which televangelists enjoyed enormous fame and financial success. Phil Collins wrote the song while improvising with a snippet of the choral melody "Jesus, he knows me and he knows I'm right."

The song Jesus He Knows Me somewhat cynically depicts the idea of geeky Christians who identify their faith with TV personalities. The lavish lifestyle of televangelists, however, is very different from the one they declare and preach. The comedy music video for the song depicts Phil Collins as an unscrupulous moral, media preacher trying to raise a huge sum of money. The music video also features other members of the band, in similar roles. The director of the video is Jim Yukich, who is responsible for making most of the videos zespołu Genesis.

The Genesis band very rarely performed the song live, on television. The musicians were concerned that the visuals would be perceived as mocking religion.
