Music video description

One of the biggest hits of the British group Genesis, the song "I Can't Dance" was initially treated by the band as a joke. The song was very straightforward and completely out of their musical style. First, during one of the recording sessions, Mike Rutherford, one of the band members played the main theme of the so-called "riff. It was inspired by a melody heard in a jeans commercial and was a fragment of the song The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go. Phil Collins quickly started improvising to this melody and sang "I Can't Dance!". The whole thing came out quite funny, and the band initially didn't think they would get one of the biggest hits of their career out of all this fun. Only when another member of the band, Tony Banks added some sound effects on keyboards did the whole thing start to come together. Eventually, despite the completely different style they represented, they decided to record this song and put it on their next album. On the occasion of this song, it is also worth mentioning a very interesting video for this song. And in this regard, the members of the Genesis group decided to maintain the slightly humorous touch of the song. They decided to laugh at the artificiality and false charm of TV commercials in it. As Phil Collins once said in an interview, they focused on the aforementioned jeans commercials and their goal was to ridicule the models appearing in such ads. Reportedly, every line of the song refers to the things and activities that the models in such ads do. The very end of the video, however, is a parody of the song "Black or White," which was recorded by Michael Jackson. In the video we can see imitating the sound of a panther or a specific dance of Micheal. I invite you to watch the music video of Genesis - I Can't Dance.
